05 Oct 2017

The season will continue to Banquet Day to determine the 2017 Champions.

Team #5  was clinging to some hope that the last two remaining matches would result in his team making up the 12 point deficit.  Team #5’s last two guys came through with a 12 point margin to tie Team #2  at 90 points apiece.

So Team #5 tied Team #2.

They will play a 3 hole playoff on Banquet Day right before the regular league scramble to determine the winner of the 2017 season.  The playoff holes are Holes #1, 18 and 3.

wins the 3-Day Tournament with a net average of 65.5 and wins the Championship round pots with a net 64, with a great round of 76.

BANQUET DAY:

  • 16 October 2017: On Banquet Day, we play a 18 hole scramble  of either 3 or 4 man teams.  The teams are randomly drawn from each flight, so that each team has a A, B, C/D player on every team.
  • After the conclusion of the 18 hole scramble, some with play a 9 hole scramble where the lowest handicap players are the captains and they will draft players from the field.
  • Then at around 5:30 PM we will have the dinner portion of the banquet.
  • Awards will be presented at the banquet.  For everyone who attends the banquet, you will be leaving with a prize.
  • PLEASE RSVP for the banquet so that the chef can prepare enough meals.   Send me an email if you are planning on attending the banquet.  Thank you.
  • If you have never attending the banquet, you don’t know what your missing.  It is the best day in my opinion, as you get a chance to play with players you normally wouldn’t play with and then leave with a prize.

01 Oct 2017

Good Luck to the Championship round  contestants.

20 Sept 2017

Congrats to Team #5, Team #9, Team #2 and Team #3 for winning and advancing to the semi-finals.

14 Sept 2017

Regular Season has been completed and now its playoff time.  Your end of the season HANDICAPS will remain the same through out the playoffs.

PLAYOFF TIMES:

  • *Report to your Captain or Designee by 8:20 AM (Please call by this time if you are on the way).
  • *Captains report to the clubhouse no later than 8:30 AM to set your matches.
  • *Shotgun Start at 8:45 AM.

If your team is out of the playoff, you are still eligible for the individual 3-Day Tournament: a competition during the playoff period where you take the best 2 out of 3 net scores played during the 3 playoff days.

If you are out of the playoffs and are competing for the individual 3-day competition, you just get a foursome of players out of the playoffs

How to fill out the scorecards

Required Items:

  1. Last Names.
  2. Team #
  3. Handicaps with handicap holes marked
  4. Holes Won/Lost/Tied
  5. Front 9, Back 9 and Total Score.
  6. Final Match Results.   I have noticed a lot of you guys do front 9 match results and back 9 results BUT ALL I NEED IS THE FINAL MATCH RESULTS.  The front 9, back 9 system seems to be confusing for some resulting in a lot of erasing or errors.

The simplest method is just count the wins at the end, in this example FAV won 5 holes and DITTO won 7 holes, so he beat FAV by 2 holes which results in 10 to 8 win.

So for example:

  • Win by 1 holes then results are 9.5 to 8.5
  • Win by 2 holes then results are 10 to 8.0
  • Win by 3 holes then results are 10.5 to 7.5
  • Win by 4 holes then results are 11 to 7.0
  • Win by 5 holes then results are 11.5 to 6.5
  • Win by 6 holes then results are 12.0 to 6.0
  • Win by 7 holes then results are 12.5 to 5.5
  • Win by 8 holes then results are 13.0 to 5.0
  • Win by 9 holes then results are 13.5 to 4.5
  • Win by 10 holes then results are 14.0 to 4.0

12 Sept 2017

So it is official.  Scorecards have been audited and here are the results:

Team #1 and Team #10 were battling it out for what they thought would be the last playoff spot, but that turned into a futile effort as Team #7 jumped in and took the last remaining playoff spot with a whopping 10.30 point effort.  Team #5 finished the season as the top team with big win as well.

Playoff matches will be as follows:

  • Team #5 vs. Team #7
  • Team #6 vs. Team #9
  • Team #2 vs. Team #4
  • Team #3 vs. Team #8

06 Sept 2017

Coming to the final week of the regular season.  Week 18 which will be played on 11 September, is the last day to qualify for individual awards, to play the required matches to be eligible for the playoffs and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the last chance your team will have to make it into the playoffs.

Every team still has a chance.

Banquet Day……16 October.  It is great time, we play a scramble format which is flighted so A, B, C and D players can play on one team.  League awards distributed and prizes awarded.  Price for the banquet to be determined, and reservations will start during playoffs.

Only two weeks left in the regular season.

Reminder you need 9 matches to be eligible for the playoffs.  12 matches for most awards other than the MVP which requires 14 matches.  Top 8 teams make it to the playoffs, every team is still in the hunt for that last coveted spot into the playoffs.

Match Play Tournament:

Quarter Final Deadline is 04 September, at this stage you really should be playing against each other in person and not exchange scorecards.  You can play your match outside the regular scheduled Monday.  For example playing in the afternoon after the league (replay rate is only paying for the cart fee at Water’s Edge), play another day then Monday at Water’s Edge (Same rate as league day Monday through Friday) or even at a different course.  Please advise me on who the winner is by or on 04 September.

Reminder and for those who are new to the league, if your team does not make it to the playoffs you are still allowed to participate in the individual tournament held in conjunction with the playoffs.  The individual tournament is the best 2 net score for the 3 matches played during the playoffs.

09 Aug. 2017

A few reminders:

  • Please be in the clubhouse by 7:45 AM and advise your Captain of your arrival.
  • The 64 player season long match play tournament can be played against your opponent on a different day other than our Monday League day.
  • Practicing on the driving range and green after 7:45 is a violation of Rule 24.1:

RULE: 24.1        PRACTICE TIME VIOLATION

  • After 7:45 AM practicing will end.  No practicing will be allowed after 7:45 AM, any player in violation will incur a lost of the first hole in their match.  The penalty will not be administered during the first three weeks of the season to allow players to become accustomed to the practice time procedure.
  • Some other reminders about the rules:

RULE: 23           MARKING GOLF BALLS

  • All balls must be marked with a personal ID.  At the start of play, all players in the foursome will reveal their markings or personal logo to each other.

RULE:  4            CAPTAINS RESPONSIBILITY

  • The captains or a designated captain must be seated in the clubhouse with the opposing captain no later than 7:45 AM.  Any captain not available by 7:45 AM in the clubhouse will forfeit his right to set the pairings for the matches to the opposing captain or his designated captain who is present at the clubhouse prior to 7:45 AM.

RULE:  8            PICK UP RULE

  • If you feel that you cannot lose or win the hole, you may tell your opponent to pick up the ball, allowing the next stroke to be the last.  This may take place anywhere on the course.  The ball to be picked up cannot be for par or less.  The pick-up rule is waived during the play-offs.

RULE:  3            THE STARTING TIME (AS IN THE TIME WE SHOULD BE HEADING TO OUR ASSIGNED TEES TO START PLAY NOT THE TIME TO REPORT IN)

  • Starting time is 8:00 AM. However to accommodate members working a late watch, there is a grace period.  The late member must call his captain before 7:45 AM

Stats and Week 15 sheet coming out later.

We do not have regular league golf on Columbus Day as it is a holiday.

  • So, if anyone is interested in playing golf on Columbus Day 09 October:
  • League Member is organizing a golf day at Idlewild Country Club

04 July 2017

Don’t know if everyone is aware of the pick up rule.

RULE: 8

PICK UP RULE

If you feel that you cannot lose or win the hole, you may tell your opponent to pick up the ball, allowing the next stroke to be the last. This may take place anywhere on the course. The ball to be picked up cannot be for par or less. The pick-up rule is waived during the play-offs. The reason I mention it, is that we are on week 14 now and I have noticed a lot of scores still where the opponents have really a large margin.  For example one opponent has a 4 and the the opponent has an 8.

  • Also the pick up rule does not mean you pick up for PAR or less.
  • The rangers have been advising if we can please be mindful about the greens and not bring the carts near them.
  • Still seeing FOUR players looking for a ball.  One player should be hitting his ball while others look for the errant shot.
  • Play ready golf

27 July 2017

So Week #13 is coming up, which means we will only have SIX weeks left in the regular season.  I wrote a number next to your name to signify how many more games you need to play in order to be eligible for the playoffs. For example (2) means you need to play 2 more games during the remaining 6 weeks of the regular season.

  • *Minimum of 9 games needed during the regular season to be playoff eligible.
  • *If your team does not make it to the playoffs, you are still eligible for the individual 3 day tournament held during the playoffs.

26 July 2017

REMINDERS:

Even though you might be playing with players who have the handicap flag to allow the carts near the green, it does NOT mean that everyone in the group now has the same privilege.

PLEASE PARK ON THE CARTPATHS BY THE GREEN AND TEE BOXES.

Please be respectful for the course so that we can keep it in good shape,

16 July 2017

Seems to be some misunderstanding of what a forfeit is.

The forfeit is accessed to a TEAM for not having five players show up.  It is design to penalize the team for not having the minimum amount of five players.  The 10-6 forfeit system is accessed to the team NOT THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYER.

So when you see the 10 or 6 point next to your name, those points are not added to your individual statistics but rather just placed by your name for clerical purposes to reflect the points added to the team record.

So when you see forfeit next to your name, it is only placed there for clerical purposes only, the points do not improve or negate your season average, HAS NO BEARING ON YOUR INDIVIDUAL RECORD.

********************************************************************************

New Players who did not play their 3 qualifying games during the first nine games of the season are now unable to qualify for the regular season as such are no longer members of the league this year.

(If a player fails to qualify by establishing a 114.3 average or better during their qualification period, the player will not be a member of the league this year. Qualification period for new players will be during their first three matches played within the first nine games.)

12 July 2017

Web updated with Week 11 Handicaps.

Weather looked really bad at first, so lot of members decided not to come out today thinking we were not playing, but it turned out we decided to play as weather outlook got better. So we waited out the gloomy weather and the golf gods were kind and provided us an opportunity to play.  Turned out to be fine day of golfing with course draining well and 90 degrees with the cart.

The match play tournament deadline has been extended due to the weather, so Round 2 Deadline is now 17 July 2017 and other rounds following will be extended as well by one week.

ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN PLAY YOUR MATCH ON A DIFFERENT DAY OTHER THAN MONDAY IF YOU CAN, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU GET FURTHER INTO THE ROUNDS AND SHOULD DECIDE YOUR MATCHES BY PLAYING IN-PERSON MATCH INSTEAD OF EXCHANGING CARDS.

08 July 2017

Web updated with Week 10 Handicaps. Just a reminder, the lunch buffet is not free, its $5, which is a great deal. Please pay the bartender.

Mid-Season Report and scores can viewed in the Weekly Results page.

READY Golf.  Slow again with only 104 players.  Ready golf please.

Too many groups out there where all four players are looking for one ball, then moving as a group to find a different ball before anyone has played their shot.  Please hit your shot when its safe to do so, then help look.  League subscribes to ready golf and  groups out there are NOT playing this format but rather (Honor golf ) waiting to hit their ball after the furthest player has hit even when the player is going back to the cart to get a different club and you can safely hit your shot while player is getting a different club.  Or waiting for the player who is waiting for the green to clear cause he has a 240 shot in his bag and your group is waiting as well then even though the remaining 3 players are all 230 out and planning on laying up but are still waiting for the player with the longest shot, even though they can all safely hit their shots while the long ball player is waiting. If you have a whole hole gap in front of you and people are waiting at the tee box, that should be a sign you need to pick up speed or let the faster groups through.

We should not be playing a 5 and half hour or longer rounds

PLAY READY GOLF

Ready golf allows the golfers within a group to take their swings when each member of the group is ready to play.  If you reach your ball and are ready to hit, while other members of your group are not yet prepared, then go ahead and hit – even if you are not away.

Examples:

  • Hitting a shot when safe to do so if a player farther away faces a challenging shot and is taking time to assess their options
  • Shorter hitters playing first from the tee or fairway if longer hitters have to wait
  • Hitting a tee shot if the person with the honour is delayed in being ready to play
  • Hitting a shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball
  • Putting out even if it means standing close to someone else’s line
  • Hitting a shot if a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still farthest from the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker
  • When a player’s ball has gone over the back of a green, any player closer to the hole but chipping from the front of the green should play while the other player is having to walk to their ball and assess their shot
  • Marking scores upon immediate arrival at the next tee, except that the first player to tee off marks their card immediately after teeing off
  • Allow faster groups to play through if your group is lagging behind

14 April 2017
